Imagine being lost in the woods with nothing but the clothes on your back. Would you know how to build a shelter, start a fire, find food and clean water?
We believe everyone who steps into the back country should have these basic skills so that the backwoods experience can be truly enjoyed. We are children of the earth, but we have become disconnected from our once-natural relationship with the woods and streams, mountains, lakes and rivers, wildlife, wind and rain. We would like to reconnect you. With Touch the Earth, learning these skills is fun, and gives you the confidence to explore and discover the natural world around you. Our programs are designed for everyone, regardless of past camping experience or age. Our goal is to make you wilderness-wise, confident in your ability to handle yourself in an emergency situation should one arise.
Over the last five years we have seen another important effect of reconnecting with these ancient skills - those who have experienced these programs tell us they are more self-confident and empowered in their daily lives.
Touch the Earth is more than a walk in the woods, it is an experience full of metaphor, and a great opportunity to learn more about yourself.
When you are sitting next to a crackling campfire, working with ancient skills and knowledge in the company of others who appreciate the awesomeness of the great outdoors, then drifting off to sleep as a shooting star speeds across the brilliant night sky - you are home.
