Your instructor, Bob Hemenger, began teaching wilderness skills as an instructor at Tom Brown Jr's Tracker School, and also taught camps with Brooke Medicine Eagle. He has worked with the Wildlife Recovery Association rehabilitating injured animals such as bear cubs, river otters, bobcats, foxes and coyotes, as well as raptors and songbirds. He founded Touch the Earth in 1992.
Bob has a degree in biology from Central Michigan University, and is currently adjunct faculty at Prescott College. He calls himself a Naturalist whose goal is to bring people back to the earth and teach the skills and ways of living that will help protect and preserve the earth for our grandchildren's grandchildren.
To apply: Just mail in the registration form along with your non-refundable deposit.
Acceptance: A packet of information will be mailed to you upon receipt of your registration and deposit. It will include a conformation letter, a list of what to bring and travel information (airport destinations, a map, arrival and departure times for camps, etc.).
Early bird discount: If we receive your registration and deposit six or more weeks prior to the first day of the class, we will take 10% of the total tuition.
Family discount: For families of three or more. Call for information.
Cancellation policy: If you must cancel, and do so 30 days or more prior to the first day of the class, a full refund of your deposit is possible. If you cancel 14 to 29 days prior, half your deposit can be refunded. For any cancellations 13 days or less prior, your entire deposit is non-refundable. Your deposit may be transferrable under certain conditions. If Touch the Earth cancels a class your deposit will be fully refunded or transferred.
Meals: We will provide appropriate breakfasts and dinners for all classes longer than one day. Meals are good, wholesome, organic and vegetarian (with the occasional wild game on the side). If you have any special dietary needs let us know.
Lodging: For overnight camps we ask that people stay in camp and not travel back and forth to town. You can either bring a tent, sleep in the tipi or in one of the primitive shelters.
Location: We are located in Southwest Colorado (one hour's drive east of Durango). All camps, unless otherwise specified in this brochure, are located within a short drive of Pagosa Springs, CO.
Age: Anyone age 7-12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. 13-18 year-olds must have permission from Touch the Earth as well as parental consent. 19-150 year-olds, no problem. All participants of the Kids Camp must have parental consent.
